Visit HurryDate Online

If you asked me a year ago, I would have given HurryDate.com 1 star out of 5. However, I have changed my opinion and here is why.

I participated in two HurryDate events, once in 2007 and again in 2008. I had a major complaint about the 2007 event. This was in September 2007. I signed up myself and three friends online. However, the registrations didn't go through for two of them, so I did them again online. When we got to the event, one of them wasn't on the registration list, so we had to pay in cash for him to attend that night.

Then I found out my credit card had been charged six times, for four registrations. Combined with the cash payment we made at the event, I was charged a total of three extra registrations, over $100!

I started contacting the company to inquire about refunds. The event hostess had given me an email address to contact. I got no response. So I went to their Web site, and couldn't find a phone number. But they put one down for media contacts ... I thought okay they are willing to talk to people they think will give them press coverage. So I called that number, left messages, never got a call back. I shelved it for a while, and periodically sent emails following up over the next two years. In late 2009 I sent another email message saying it was my fourth email attempt to contact them after numerous phone messages were left.

At this point, I wasn't really expecting much. But I kept the paperwork handy at my desk and figured I would periodically try to get my money back.

Then in January, I thought I'd try again. I forwarded the previous message that I had sent, said it was at least my fifth email attempt, and requested a refund.

To my surprise, within hours, I received a message back from "Karen" in Customer Support who asked for more information to investigate. She said that it was the first time they had heard from me. Well, I don't believe that at all, since I have proof of all the emails I sent to them, but I was pleased that I finally got a response. I scanned in copies of my bank and credit card statements proving the extra charges, and after verifying the info, I was informed I would get my refund check within 15 business days.

And two days ago, the check arrived. I was refunded everything I was due.

I don't know if they have new staff now that is more capable of doing their jobs, or maybe they have a new business model, or maybe new management that knows how to run a business.

But whatever the reason, in my case, it took them over two years but my issue was finally resolved and I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt with my 3-star review and hope that they continue to provide adequate customer service to their customers.

(And as for the actual events ... it was a lot of fun, my cheeks hurt from smiling so much during the night, I had a great time. Didn't make any connections the first time but met a bunch of great guys the second time ... first location was kind of out of the way and icky, second location was downtown and hip, maybe that has to do with the kind of people that will turn up for the event ...)

Hmmm... my previous review got erased. I wonder why.

In a nutshell, I attended a HurryDate event in Mountain View. When I arrived at the venue, there was only a handful of people there.

Event started late. Hostess said she was expecting more people to arrive but nobody else did. There were only 4 girls and 7 guys. Since there were less than 10 dates than initially promised, she said we'd be getting a voucher so we could go to the next event for free.

When I got home to enter my scores, website screwed up, kept saying someone had already entered scores using my ID. Sent an e-mail (3 actually) to the company a week ago and still has not been resolved.

I asked if I could get a refund instead of a coupon for the next event, and they said they didn't issue refunds for events that took place and that the voucher had no monetary value.

I want my $35 back :( All I got out of the event was seven 5-minute conversations, and I can't even use the website to see if I matched with anyone!

I got duped by this hurrydate scam.
I went to two of their events, once because a friend wanted to check it out.
I think that they pay girls of different ages to be there.
I also unknowingly was paying for it to the tune if 35.00 a month and was not even aware until 400.00 later, my bank refunded some of my money.
I should've checked my bank statement closer.
I tried to contact the company to no avail and if you look at the very fine print of what you sign up for ( which I should have done in the beginning) they are in a legal right to take money automatically from the account.
I had my bank block them from using my account, the funny thing is that I kept getting emails about an error in billing from Hurrydate.
This was a couple of years ago and I hope people that think about using this speed-dating service stay away or at least look at the fine print closely.

I paid for a HurryDate, only to show up at the exact time it started, and the place was barren. There was a man there to "set it up" and then 2 ladies in the corner.

I turned on a heel and walked out.

Went home and disputed the charge on my Discover Card. They told me that they tried to contact the company as well, but with no luck. Fortunately, Discover is awesome and refunded my $40 fee.

STAY AWAY... I can't even begin to say how shady this company is. What a shame.

If I were you I would stay away from this company..I went on a speed date and only had 8 dates. They told me since it was less then 10, I get a free one..Something was supposed to come in the mail for my free date..I wanted to go a week later to another event in Pasadena but nothing came. I emailed 10 times over the span of a week and never got a response.

If they are so busy to not answer an Email in a week, then they should be making enough money to pay for better customer service. No phone number listed on the site at all. That's bad if they can't answer an Email in a week.

Stay away.

This company is a rip-off. Hopefully you'll read this and the other reviews before signing up with them. I signed up for a date on 11/19. When I logged on a few days before, they had somehow switched this to a 11/12 event, and there was a form visible for me to evaluate the women at that event even though I had not attended the 11/12 event. I sent an e-mail to alert the of this error, and they switched me back to 11/19 but they charged me a $5 re-scheduling fee. I did attend the 11/19 and it was actually OK, but they again messed things up, and this time I had no ability to rate the women I had met.

Since then, I have mysteriously been signed up for three additional events, and the charges for these events have appeared on my credit card. ($36.90 x 4 now, plus the $5 charge). I called them twice, and they never answer. I left messages each time but received no response. I e-mailed them three times, and only got a response the third time, when I threatened legal action. They claimed they had responsed to the first e-mails, but I know this is utter crap. I was looking at my e-mail closely, waiting for their prior responses, and they never sent me anything.

The response they did send ignored the points I raised and was utterly inadequate. They have zero customer service. This is the first company I've encountered that I think is actually fradulently ringing up charges. I too (like another reviewer) had to call my credit card company to dispute the charges. Save yourself a lot of hassle. Avoid this company. They're charlatans.

This company stole my money by illegally taking money from my credit card without my permission. When I asked for my money back they have said no. This company is taking money from people everyday without their permission, if a person did that they would be in jail. I am working to create a way to get my money and several other peoples money back from this company who is not abiding by the laws of our great nation. I will continue to update on the action I am taking.. Thank you... A very unhappy victim of this company..
This company doesn't deserve 1 star..
Please if this company has stolen from you, complain, and we will get our money back..

The event was not bad and i did meet a few nice girls. The company itself are a bunch of mouthbreathers. They charged me for another month, when i went to dispute this....They told me that while they felt bad, they could not give me a refund. I would have given them 3 stars for a decent event...Instead....They get one star for being dirtbags.

I was to attend a hurrydate event in Oakland, CA. that was cancelled at the last minute. Going to an alternate hurrydate event was an option that was presented as well as a refund. I opted for a refund for an event that should have taken place on February 1, 2008 and I'm still waiting. I have sent 4 emails to date and am absolutely FED-UP with trying to get a response. I'm going to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau to see what happens.

This company should go down in flames if they can't get their act together! Actually, it sounds like they should be on their way out already.

There's nothing worse than bad customer service let alone not responding to emails sent directly to the company. I will post an updated response once I file my complaint with the BBB.

Buyer Beware:

Hurry Date and other similar businesses use to rank higher in my book a few years ago but a change in their business plan has made them a complete waste of time for the single person looking to meet someone.

It is still generally true that you will get the opportunity to meet 14 to 18 single people of the promised age bracket but that is about it. In years past they (the organizers) use to collect the sheets on which you wrote down the candidates you were interested in. The organizers would then enter the information into a database and distribute the matches accordingly by e-mail. This use to work fairly well. This has all changed though with the expansion of their on-line sites. They now leave it up to the participants to go on-line after the events when they get home and submit their information for matches. This is where it all falls apart. It is yet another step you must rely upon someone else to complete. Those sheets will simply lie on coffee tables till the following week untill they are discarded and no information will ever be entered.

This is really a shame, these events use to be good but the owners have looked to cut costs. My advice, just pursue other avenues. I wish I could say better.

Good luck,

Ed
